Every day thousands of people are losing their lives due to Covid-19. Covid-19 is a new virus that was created in 2019 in Wuhan, China. Many say it came from snakes, and others say it came from bats. The virus is highly contagious. Luckily, technology is helping control the spread of Covid-19. Technology powered by artificial intelligence (AI) is helping control the spread of Covid-19.
"Sometimes the pace of innovation in emerging digital technologies can be held back by infrastructure, financing, and bureaucratic constraints," said Jonathan Tanner, a digital consultant at the Overseas Development Institute think tank.
"When faced with a challenge like responding to the coronavirus outbreak, there are strong incentives to overcome these constraints quickly and put new technology to the test," he told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
First, it helps clean hospitals because robots are used to disinfect places where a former patient with Covid-19 was. This is important because if human beings enter that place to clean they have a high potential of getting Covid-19 and spreading it everywhere else they go.
Second, drones are delivering medical supplies to those in need. This is helpful because it is a really safe way to help the ones who need it.
Third, AI is being used to sort scans to spot the infection. This is vital because it is a fast process, so the people who tested for this will get their results immediately.
Next, some authorities are tracking carriers who could potentially carry Covid-19. This is good that they are doing this because it is easy to identify so that they can put the person in isolation so they won’t spread it to anyone else.
After that, some robots can talk to get intel on the person quarantined and how they feel. This is a great idea because again, the person who is isolated doesn't have to spread the virus to the doctor who asks questions to them.
“It is not surprising that these countries have pressed new technologies into use quickly”, said Carolyn Bigg, a partner at law firm DLA Piper in Hong Kong who focuses on technology.
"Countries such as Singapore and China want to be leaders in big data and analytics. They are showing how big data platforms can be mobilized quickly and transparently, and be a force for good," she said.
"It will lead to greater awareness of how big data can be used," she said.
Another way that technology helps is that it lets certified websites like the CDC share important information with the world and lets people take a test to see if they had symptoms and if they can get medical help immediately. This is wonderful because people who are poor or have constraints don’t have to get up and go to a real doctor each time just for a check-up. This helps control the spread of Covid-19 because people can self-recognize and quarantine themselves.
Lastly, technology helps by letting people communicate. It helps control the spread of the coronavirus because people know that they can’t go to their house.
In all, technology is helping control the spread of Covid-19 in many ways. Without technology, it would be very hard to live. From online school to find out if you have the disease, technology does it all.
Good to see the consolidation of all...
